Wine Pronunciation Guide

Our wine pronunciation glossary of wine names and wine-related words includes a brief description of each term and phonetic spelling.

You don't need to speak French, German, Italian or Spanish to help pronounce these words. Try the phonetic rendition. Pronounce the separated syllables as they are written in English. For example, Paris is pronounced Pair-is in English, but in French Paris is pronounced Pa-ree, stressing the final syllable as is usual in French pronunciation.

French chateau wine producers are listed alphabetically by the name of the chateau and marked with an asterisk (*). For example, "Chateu Ausone" is listed as *Ausone and pronounced Ow-zo-neh. "Chateau d' Issan is listed as *Issan (d') and pronounced Dee-sahng.
